Moroccan Paralympic Team Touches Down in Paris for 2024 Games
Moroccan Paralympic athletes have arrived in Paris to participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, scheduled from August 28 to September 8. The delegation landed at Orly Airport today, marking the beginning of their journey in one of the world’s most anticipated sporting events.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will showcase para-athletes from 182 countries competing across 22 sports. Morocco is set to field a robust team of 38 athletes, who will compete in events such as para athletics, wheelchair tennis, para-powerlifting, para-taekwondo, para-road cycling, and goalball.
Mustapha Fkeoui, Secretary General of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities (FRMSPSH), shared the team's ambitious objectives for the Games. “Our goal in Paris extends beyond participation; we aim to secure as many medals as possible,” he stated.
Fkeoui underscored the athletes' high performance expectations. “These competitors are elite athletes with a history of success, and we aspire not only to win medals but also to break world records,” he added.
Azzedine Nouiri, a Moroccan Paralympic shot put champion, is making his fourth appearance at the Games. He expressed his determination to excel, stating, “This is my fourth Paralympics, and I am committed to achieving personal bests and reaching the podium once again, as I have in the past.”
Wheelchair tennis champion Najwa Awane also shared her enthusiasm. “It’s a dream realized! Competing in the Paralympics thanks to my African Championship title is a great honor. We have trained rigorously and are ready to give our best performance,” she said.
The Moroccan delegation comprises 85 members, including the 38 athletes and their support team of technical, administrative, logistical, and medical staff.
Since their debut at the Paralympic Games in Seoul 1988, Moroccan athletes have amassed a total of 38 medals, including 16 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze.
