La sequía afecta a la mayor parte de Inglaterra mientras las autoridades advierten sobre la creciente presión del agua
Around 71.3% of England is currently affected by drought, according to the British government, as the country faces increasingly severe pressure on water resources following an exceptionally dry July.
The Environment Ministry said on Monday that drought conditions now cover almost three-quarters of England, with the situation deteriorating after a particularly dry start to August. Authorities also warned that all regions of the country are experiencing some level of pressure on water supplies.
July was recorded as the driest month ever documented in Britain, adding to concerns about the impact of prolonged rainfall shortages on rivers, reservoirs, agriculture and ecosystems.
The situation could become more challenging in the coming days, with forecasts indicating limited rainfall and the possibility of a fifth heatwave affecting the country. Higher temperatures combined with continued dry weather could increase demand for water and place additional strain on already pressured supplies.
The authorities are closely monitoring water levels and environmental conditions as the drought continues to affect large parts of the country. Farmers and other sectors dependent on reliable water supplies are among those particularly exposed to the consequences of prolonged dry conditions.
The latest figures highlight the increasing vulnerability of the United Kingdom to periods of extreme weather. While droughts have historically affected parts of the country, longer periods of unusually warm and dry weather can intensify pressure on water resources and create wider environmental and economic challenges.
With little rain expected in the short term, British authorities are preparing for the possibility that drought conditions could persist, depending on how rainfall and temperatures develop during the coming weeks.
