Marruecos pide apoyo para naciones en transición en la Unión Africana
In a significant address before the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), Morocco underscored the imperative of providing support to countries undergoing political transitions. The aim is to facilitate their swift reintegration into this pan-African institution.
During informal consultations with Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Sudan— convened by Morocco, which is presiding over the AU's Peace and Security Council for March— the Moroccan delegation highlighted the critical importance of ongoing dialogue and regular consultations with these transitional nations.
The success of these processes hinges on open and constructive exchanges, which are essential for addressing the expectations of the populations, building trust, and promoting sustainable solutions. The Moroccan representatives advocated for institutionalizing these informal consultations as a strategic mechanism to support political transitions.
This continuous dialogue is intended to identify persistent challenges, encourage inclusive solutions, and bolster the efforts of national authorities in governance, reconciliation, and development. It will also ensure better coordination of regional and international initiatives, optimizing the impact of actions taken for the benefit of the populations, stated the Moroccan delegation.
Furthermore, the delegation lauded the progress made by the respective national authorities and urged all involved parties to prioritize the supreme national interest and the well-being of the people. "Maintaining regular dialogue with these countries is crucial for understanding their expectations and providing tailored support, considering their political, economic, and social specificities," emphasized the representatives.
The delegation reaffirmed Morocco's unwavering commitment to African unity and sovereignty, along with the legitimate aspirations of African peoples for peace, stability, and development. In light of numerous challenges and the limitations of purely security-focused approaches, Morocco stressed the importance of the Peace, Security, and Development Nexus, as recommended in the Tangier Declaration adopted by the AU Conference. This approach aims to address the root causes of instability through concrete development projects tailored to the realities of each country.
Moreover, Morocco remains steadfastly committed to active solidarity with countries in transition, emphasizing that they should not feel abandoned during this period but rather benefit from multidimensional support. This support should be grounded in security assistance to address stability challenges and combat transnational threats, socio-economic support to enhance the resilience of populations and create opportunities—particularly for youth— and humanitarian assistance to protect vulnerable populations and ensure access to essential services.
The delegation also expressed confidence in the ability of national authorities and the active forces within these countries to strengthen national cohesion, overcome current challenges, and embark on a sustainable path toward peace, stability, and inclusive development.
Morocco is resolutely committed to standing alongside countries in political transition and will continue to support their efforts to consolidate peace and development. "We are convinced that, through a collective, inclusive, and supportive approach, we can guide these brotherly nations toward a better future marked by stability, prosperity, and their full reintegration into our African Union," the delegation concluded, reaffirming Morocco's commitment to fostering a united, stable, and prosperous Africa.
